Most people think you need to buy an expensive blender for making good smoothies. But actually, there is a huge amount of choice on the market and plenty of high quality blenders at reasonable prices.
Due to this, we considered it a good idea to find the best smoothie blender, without having to spend a fortune. We realize that everyone has their own budget so have included products at various price points. In this list, you will find some blenders that cost over $150 and some as little as $30.
More importantly, all of these products have been tested in great detail and offer excellent performance. Now that we have got all the basics out of the way, let’s get started on this list.
The 5 Best Blenders for Smoothies Review:
1. Oster Versa Blender | 1400 Watts
You can spend $500 on a Vitamix but why bother when you can get the Oster VERSA for $170? It’s the closest to a Vitamix that we have ever seen, and we were quite shocked as to how it only cost $170.
Whether you want a device for making green smoothies or for soup, the VERSA does it all to perfection. The incredibly powerful 1400-watt motor combines with the stainless-steel blade to effortlessly blend through anything you throw at it.
With the blade spinning at over 250 MPH, you get extremely high performance at a fraction of the price of the Vitamix. There are 3 different settings to choose from, depending on whether you want it for smoothies, dips or soups.
Simply choose your preferred setting and hit the start button. The blender will automatically stop once it’s fully complete. On top of that, there is a pulse button that allows you to control the consistency, along with the speed dial that lets you easily adjust the speed.
What we liked best about this blender is the convenience it offers. It’s extremely versatile and replaced most of our kitchen appliances. Once you get this, you will no longer need an ice chopper, food processor, or even a handheld mixer. It just frees up so much space on your kitchen countertop.
Now, in terms of design, the Oster VERSA looks stylish in black color and has a sturdy base to help prevent any unnecessary movement. Metal has been used to construct the 2 connecting pieces, which makes it the best blender in terms of durability, and one that will be sure to last you a long time.
The included 64-ounce BPA Tritan plastic jar has a large capacity yet low-profile and comes with a secure-fitting lid to avoid making messes. We also liked the included tamper, as it allows you to easily move difficult-to-process ingredients down into the blade for thorough blending.
We tried blending spinach and other vegetables to make green smoothies and it performed brilliantly. The leaves were completely pulverized so the nutrients stayed intact.
The result was almost completely the same as an expensive Vitamix or Blendtec blender. Perhaps the only difference was the time taken, as we felt the VERSA took about 20-30 seconds longer. In our opinion, that’s a very minimal point considering you’re saving roughly $300.
So, to recap, if you want the best blender for smoothies, but don’t want to spend $500, the Oster VERSA is the perfect option for you.
2. Nutri Ninja Pro BL450 Blender 900 Watts
The Nutri Ninja is one impressive machine. Its 900-watt motor base is incredibly powerful and makes consistent smoothies in no time. We literally had no chunks when we tested it out. It blends very smoothly and evenly, and best of all, you still get all of the essential nutrients in your drinks.
In our opinion, it is far more powerful and offers much better performance than the more expensive Magic Bullet that is 3rd on this list.
We also tried a huge range of different foods, including fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts. Ice was crushed very easily and frozen milkshakes we made turned out to be absolutely delicious.
For convenience, you get an 18 oz. and a 24 oz. personal to-go cup as well as 2 sip and vacuum seal containers. So, whether you have started going to the Gym recently or just want a delicious smoothie for lunch, you have all of the tools to get started.
Cleaning is extremely easy and requires little to no effort. The parts are BPA free and safe to use in the dishwasher. Simply put them on the top rack of the dishwasher and you’re done.
The whole operation takes less than 5 minutes and creates no mess at all, which is amazing considering how much time traditional juicers take. The machine itself is very sturdy as well so should last you a long time. Just make sure to take care of it.
The included recipe book is a nice addition. It comes with 30 interesting recipes to give you some ideas and help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
We would highly recommend the Nutri Ninja. It is an absolute bargain and definitely the best blender for green smoothies under $80.
3. NutriBullet University by Magic Bullet 9-Piece High-Speed Blender
The Nutri Bullet is not cheap at $80 but it’s obviously a very popular kitchen appliance. With a 600-watt motor, it’s not quite as powerful as the Nutri Ninja.
However, combined with the high-torque power base and the patented extractor blades, it effectively pulverizes anything you throw at it.
At the same time, it’s still very portable, meaning it can easily stay on your kitchen counter without taking up too much space. It’s very easy to use, and with the push of a button, you can make delicious smoothies and protein shakes with an evenly smooth texture.
More importantly, when using fruits and vegetables, it efficiently extracts all of the nutrients that are normally lost with a traditional juicer. It’s lightning fast as well. In fact, it took us about 3 minutes to make a smoothie and clean up everything.
The actual blending only took about 30 seconds, which is crazy. Using frozen fruit is not a problem and in fact, we found the smoothies to taste much better when they were made really cold.
Most parts are dishwasher safe as well, so the whole process requires very little effort on your part. You could easily use this blender for smoothies on a daily basis and not feel any hassle at all.
If you have recently started a weight loss diet or just want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, the Nutri Bullet is an excellent appliance and comes with a very big name.
While we prefer the Nutri Ninja, there’s no denying that the Nutri Bullet is one of the best devices at this price.
Just in case you were wondering, this 9-pieces kit includes the following:
- A high-torque power base,
- An extractor blade
- A milling blade
- A tall cup
- 2x short cups
- A handled lip ring
- A regular lip ring
- 2x stay-fresh resealable lids
- A user manual and recipe book
- A pocket nutritionist
4. Oster Reverse Crush Counterforms Blender
The Oster Reverse is an excellent quality blender for making smoothies and certainly looks the part. It’s stylish and features an all-metal drive for increased durability.
With a 600-watt motor and dual direction blade technology, it’s reasonably powerful and can handle frozen fruit and ice cubes with ease. The reversing motor also helps to draw food and ice down to ensure more consistent and smoother blending.
You get 7 different speed settings, and both high and low pulse options, so it is basically a one-touch process. Simply choose the desired setting and the blender will automatically shut off once it’s done.
From frozen drinks and smoothies, to dips and sauces, the Oster Reverse can handle it all without breaking a sweat. It’s just so versatile, which is very impressive at this price.
Both the 6-cup glass pitcher and the lid are completely dishwasher safe, so cleaning is super easy and requires almost no effort at all. Making a fresh smoothie takes less than 30 seconds, and tastes absolutely delicious.
Overall, we would highly recommend the Oster Reverse if you want an affordable product that makes delicious smoothies. It is arguably the best blender out there for smoothies within the $60 price point.
5. Ninja 400-Watt Blender/Food Processor for Frozen Blending
Priced at just under $32, the Ninja Master QB900B is the cheapest product on this list. Saying that, it’s still quite a powerful machine and is sure to stake a permanent spot on your kitchen countertop.
Thanks to the interchangeable 400-watt power pod, you can easily and quickly switch between the 16oz chopper bowl and the 48-oz pitcher.
In addition, the use of quad blade technology means this Ninja Master can easily handle anything you throw at it. From drips and smoothies, to crushing ice, it is a very versatile kitchen gadget. It can also take frozen fruits and blend them into delicious smoothies.
There is a one-touch pulsing button if you like to have greater control over the final results. We found it to be quite consistent throughout.
The Ninja Master seems to be well built and sturdy but there is only a 1-year warranty. At this price though, we can hardly complain.
Overall, this is a very convenient and versatile personal blender. If you love fresh delicious smoothies with all the nutrients intact, this is an affordable way to enjoy them regularly.
